Hong Kong Rally
London to Hong Kong by any way you want.
Departs July 2008.
Who's organising it?
Steven Moreno over at http://www.hongkongrally.co.uk/
What cars do we take?
You can only use a car with an engine of less than 1.3 litres. The
cars must NOT cost more than £250, repairs there after are your call
bearing in mind that if you can't bring your car back it will be
donated to the charity to be sold (probably for scrap). The lead team
will be Mini 86 with driver Steven Moreno and provisional navigator
Destin Summer.
Which charity is it in aid of?
Other than the adventure of it all the underlining reason for all
of this is to raise money for the COCOA Care of China's Orphaned and
Abandoned children.
Each team raises what they can for the rally
charity, with the bulk of the funds generated come at the end when the
cars will be sold or donated to the charity to be used by the
orphanages in some of the poorer harder to reach regions of China.
Why China's orphanages need your money.
- Every year around 30 million babies are born in China.
- As a result of China's 'one child' policy and it's traditional
preference for boys, hundreds of thousands of girls and disabled
children are abandoned each year. - Many abandoned infants die from exposure. Others are picked up by
gangs and used for begging. The lucky ones go to Chinese orphanages. - Under funded and under staffed, the level of thesed orphanages is barely adequate.
- Through your help, COCOA can improve the conditions for babies and
children in many of China's orphanages, by enhancing their quality of
care and providing much needed equipment, medicine and trained staff.
